چکیده

We propose the network on demand concept to yield the optical access network system that well handles the diversity in user demands and support technologies such as module and devices configuration. In this proposal, the network accommodation equipment, such as OLT needed for each service, is installed ‘virtually’ using WDM, and the physical rate can adapt to the user-demanded service rate by using the WDM parallel transmission technique. It well handles the diversity in user demands/services and lowers system power consumption. key words: access network, WDM, diversity, adaptive

On the Next-generation Optical Access Architecture

Optical access, or Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH), has long been considered a final solution to the problem of upgrading the current bottlenecked access to the one capable of delivering future broadband, integratedservices. The high cost of large-scale deployment of fiber and optical network systems in the field under traditional point-to-point architecture, however, is a major economic barrier to th...

Mobile WDM Backhaul Network Designs for LTE-Advanced and Beyond Systems

This invited paper describes about mobile wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) backhaul network designs for future radio access networks. First, it introduces mobile backhaul requirements to support LTE-Advanced and Beyond with emphasis on coordinated multipoints (CoMP) techniques. It primarily considers WDM passive optical networks (WDM-PON) as promising optical access technologies for mobil...

Wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) technologies for broadband access: a review [Invited]

RECEIVED 16 JUNE 2005; REVISED 17 SEPTEMBER 2005; ACCEPTED 26 SEPTEMBER 2005; PUBLISHED 27 OCTOBER 2005 The passive optical network (PON) is an optical fiber based network architecture, which can provide much higher bandwidth in the access network compared to traditional copper-based networks. Incorporating wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) in a PON allows one to support much higher bandwi...

Multi-wavelength optical access networks: architectures and enabling technologies

In this paper, we will discuss the network architectures and the enabling technologies to realize a robust multi-wavelength optical access network. Various network topologies employing the dense WDM or coarse WDM technique; as well as several network enabling technologies such as data re-modulation technique, fiber link protection and traffic restoration, etc. will be described. Besides, some f...

Optimization of long-reach TDM/WDM passive optical networks

Long-Reach Passive Optical Network (LR-PON) using hybrid TDM/WDM techniques is one of the candidates for the future optical access that can solve the expected increase in terms of traffic demand and area coverage. One of its advantages is the possibility to share the capacity of any wavelength among more than one user, through TDM/WDM hybrid multiplexing. However, it is still an open issue whic...
